"To develop the capacity of members through market development, technical innovation, information networks, policy advocacy, promotion of ethics and standards in the honey industry".

 

"A sustainable honey industry contributing to improved incomes and livelyhoods of honey value chain actors and national development".

   

 

OBJECTIVES:

  1. Provide an umbrelle body to safe guard the Zambian Bee products for its promotion,coordination and to provide a forum for dialogue on key issues on the sector.
  2. Promote and facilitate growth in the Zambian Bee Keeping sector to increase incomes for bee products producers and traders.
  3. Promote awareness and education on bee products and bee keeping.
  4. Promote quality standards and ethical practices in the bee products sector.
  5. Facilitate information exchange between council members,the council and other organisations within the region and internationally.
  6. Lobby on behalf of members of the council to the government for favourable policies and interventions to facilitate growth in the bee products sector.
  7. Lobby on behalf of members with international government for favourable terms of trade in Zambian bee Products.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

ZHC INTERVENTION SERVICES

Training Modules

ZHC has developed training modules on best field practices in honey production and management of bulking centres to help beekeepers and honey processors to improve the quality and quantity of bark hive bee products in Zambia. The training modules are available in English and key local languages.

Bulking Centres

ZHC is helping beekeeper groups in honey producing districts to establish bulking centres or depots. Beekeeprs are trained in bulking centre management to ensure that only marketable honey of high quality is stored in these premises for sale to honey buyers.

Market Driven Product Specifications

ZHC has developed realistic and practical product specifications that meets Zambian and regional market requirements.

Quality Assurance Mark

ZHC has developed a Quality Assurance Mark (QAM) to encourage best field pracices in the production and processing of Zambian honey.

The QAM is awarded to ZHC accredited honey processors and packers who meet stringent requirements developed in conjunction with the Zambia Bureau of Standards(ZABS).

Market Linkages

Beekeepers and traders can find current honey prices by named buyers using the ZNFU 4455 on Zain mobile phones and you receive the best offer prices by buyer (abbreviated buyer code).

To receive full details of the buyer you send the second message with the buyer's code to 4455. You're now ready to trade.

Micro-Finance

ZHC holds meetings with several micro-finance institutions were modalities have been agreed on linking Honey Area Associations (HAA) to affordable financial credit to help them increase production and purchase high quality bee-keeping/processing equipment.

Gender and HIV/AIDS

Gender and HIV/AIDS issues in Bee-keeper groups are part of ZHC awareness creation, men and women discuss participation in beekeeping as a business. What constraints do men and women face as beekeepers? What are the causes and possible solutions?

ZHC MEMBERSHIP

Membership is open to beekeepers,processors,packers and traders in the honey sector at a fee.
